Best Eye Makeup to Enhance Your Eye Color

Best Eye Makeup to Enhance Your Eye Color

There is a ton of eyeshadows and eyeliners on the market but do you know which colors will look best on you? Not just for your seasonal color type but for your individual eye color?

While it is good old common sense to wear warm-toned eye makeup if you are a warm season and cool-toned eye makeup if you are a cool season, you can really take things to the next level by choosing colors that are complementary to your eye color.

Best Neutrals for All Eye Colors

Best Neutrals for All Eye Colors

Neutral or nude eye makeup is classic and perfect for all color types. You can easily transition it from day to night too by adding a deeper and/or more shimmery color and a touch more eyeliner and mascara. This is why a basic nude eyeshadow palette is a must for your makeup bag.

The following colors are universally flattering for all eye colors and seasonal color types –

Eyeshadows:

  • Bone/Soft White
  • Neutral Grays
  • Neutral Beiges and Browns

Mascara:

Note: This is just two examples of a warm blue eye. This may not represent your actual eye color so please keep this in mind. It’s just for reference.

Warm blue eyes have a distinct teal tint to them because they are actually blue-green. The complementary color to blue-green is orange-red. Since wearing orange-red eye makeup would be extremely bold, which is fine if that is the look you want, a more toned-down version is advised. Best Eye Makeup for Hazel Eyes

Best Eye Makeup for Hazel Eyes
Hazel Eyes have a broad range of colors. The above photos are just examples for reference.

Hazel eyes are a mix of brown, green, gray, and even blue. They often change color between the brown base color and the main green, gray or blue color. They can be clear and bright or soft and deep. You can find a hazel eye in any of the four seasons.

To enhance your hazel eyes choose the colors that are most complementary to the main color in your eye. If you have hazel-green eyes see the suggestions above for green eyes. If you have hazel-blue or gray eyes see the color suggestions for blue eyes above. Stick with the category for your seasonal color type of course.

Best Eye Makeup for Gray Eyes

Best Eye Makeup for Gray Eyes
This is just one example of a gray eye for reference.

A gray eye can be warm or cool and it often picks up other colors making it appear blue or green at times. How can you tell if an eye is gray and not blue or green? A person with gray eyes will pick up a hint of blue or green in their eyes when wearing a blue or green top. But it is only a hint. A truly blue or green-eyed persons eyes will look even more blue or green when wearing these colors.

Gray eyes can be very light and clear or deep and steely. They can have white or pale gold or yellow flecks and some gray eyes have a cluster or gold or bronze around the pupil and/or a dark rim around the iris. I once met a man with charcoal gray eyes. They were very striking!

Since gray eyes are very neutral most colors look good on them an enhance them. If you want to enhance the green or blue tones that they pick up choose colors from the blue or green category for your seasonal color type above. And yes, you can be a warm season and have gray eyes. My mother is a gray-eyed Spring.
